CareCompass is used by families at a stressful time and by care home staff managing enquiries. We are committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standard. This aligns with the accessibility expectations of UK public-sector digital services and responsible healthcare information websites.
Accessibility features
- Clear heading structure on every page so screen readers and keyboard users can navigate efficiently
- Skip link on the homepage to jump directly to the main search area
- Visible keyboard focus styles on links, buttons, and form fields
- Sufficient colour contrast between text and backgrounds across the site
- Descriptive link text and form labels on placement and search forms
- Breadcrumb navigation on directory, profile, and information pages
- Responsive layout that works on mobile phones, tablets, and desktop screens
- No autoplay video or animation that cannot be paused
Known limitations
Some older PDF documents linked from external regulators may not be fully accessible. Third-party payment pages (Stripe Checkout) are governed by Stripe's own accessibility standards.
We have not yet commissioned a formal third-party WCAG audit. This statement will be updated when an independent review is completed.
Reporting accessibility issues
If you have difficulty using any part of CareCompass — or if you use assistive technology and find a barrier we have missed — please tell us:
- Email: privacy@carecompass.co.uk
- Or use our Contact page
Please include the page address (URL), what you were trying to do, and the device or assistive technology you were using. We aim to respond within 5 working days and will work with you to provide the information in an alternative format where possible.
Continuous improvement
Accessibility is reviewed as part of every major release. Upcoming improvements include expanded automated checks in our launch verification process and regular keyboard-navigation testing on core family and operator journeys.
